Traveling in Hong Kong

The traveling systems in Hong Kong are very good. A lot of locals don't even own a driving licence as there are various buses the MTR(that's how they call the tube/ubahn) and trams.

Usually the doubledecker-tram is only going from one side to the other on Hong Kong island so there is not much which can go wrong if you want to go from one side to the island to the other. cost per travel: 2,40GK$ and you have to get on, on the backside and get off at the front where you pay before you leave not beforehand.

The tube or MTR (metro) is the fastes public transport which is a lot smaller than the london tube system. You will need to buy and top up the "octopus"card which is the "osyter" card in london. Once you are on one of the tubes there are little LED lights in the station poins. The red ones are the station still to come and there is a little arrow which shows you the direction you are going which makes it a lot easier to realise if you are on the wright ir wrong tube. Central(for example) is one of the connection station to another line which where all of the the LED lights/stops on this line will blink on the board inside the tube while you approaching the stop(see picture underneath). This makes it again easier to know that it is possible to chance here.

Furthermore, there is another button on the very right top bit of the tubemap inside the MTR which tells you which side to get off(see picture underneath).

Some people think that HK has a overgrowded tube system and seen the documentations where ppl squeezing other ppl inside a train. THIS IS JAPAN! Not china! Here it's quite relaxed even in the rush our are the trains full but there are so many coming after another that it's not a big deal to wait for the next one.

You will come across another very clever system while waiting for the train in front of the tracks. EVERY stop has a glass wall so ppl can't jump or fall onto the tracks. There are marked waiting lines(see picture underneath) where you start lining up as the doors are exactly opening at these spots and you don't have to guess.

Purchasing a travel ticket is very easy as you only have type on the station on one of the ticket machines inside the MTR stations and it will show you the price from your station to get there.

Another public transport are the feries from the piers in the harbour which are going to the various small island around HK. (see last picture)
