Right outside Railway square at the main busstation goes the 311 or the 372 either to Bronte beach or Coogee beach.
They are both quite similar to each other but not as big and popular as Bondi beach.
Nevertheless, I went to Bronte first as there is suppose to be a small path along the coast which leads you right to Coogee.
It took oy 20min on the bus and Bronte's surrounding area looks very like a fisher village with its little restaurants, cafés and residential area. It is possible to stay in a hostel there if you'r not a big city person.
"Rock or cliff- pools" are very common in Australia. I've seen them already at Mainly, built on the edges of the cliffs and its a clever thing once the sea becomes too strong to swim outside you can choose to swim inside this pool and be save as the waves will bring only the water in as a free refill.
A lot of comptetiontions are going in this rock-pool and the kids have looots of fun when they stand on the pool's edge and the massive waves come in and splash on the cliffs & inside the pool so they get wet. (See image below)
The beautiful cliff walk follows all the way from Bronte over Clovelly beach to Coogee and takes about 1h of walking but is totally worth it as you will experience a beautiful cliff panorama.
I'm sure it would be possible to continue the walk after reaching Coogee beach but I decided to stay there for the rest of the day, chilling, swimming, sun-bading and "wave-jumping" as there were very huge ones today.
Usually you share a beach with the surfers, but don't worry, there will always be a marked area from the coastguards who always watch the swimmers when the sea is a bit ruff. This area is smarked with two red/yellow flags on the beach to signalise the swimmer area ONLY and on both sides are two coastguards standing and with their whistel and warn you if you get too far away of the save area as well as warning the sufers if they get too close.
