The royal Botanic garden & the National gallery
Melbourne has many different faces, the royal botanic garden with its many surrounding parks is one of them. (see first image)
Compares to London's hyde park is this garden a lot more tropical with a few glasshouses, diverse plants and many hired gardeners zake good care of it.
You will find palm trees and bamboo everywhere, as much as a "fern gully" area, which reminds me of the kids cartoon movie about the rainforest and fairies. (see image below)
Turtles & tropical birds are discovering the lakes and sometimes they even have openair cinemas in the middle if the garden at summer evenings.
Cost to visit: Absolutely free
Taking the red tourist bus back to the city my next stop was the National gallery just 10min away from the botanic garden.
This huge modern building reminds me a bit of Tate modern in London and it has a lot of free exhibitions running as much as one or teo you have to pay around 20-35$ per adult.
I decided to visit the contemporary art and modern paintings area which is on all year long. From Picasso to Monete over contemporary artists you will come across fashion or even aboriginal culture art.
You are allowed to take pictures, use the free internet and wonder around on 3 floors of exhibition space. For gallery lovers a "must see".
On my way home I discovered the beauty of Melbournes Southbank center and I spotted a small bar right underneath a bridge.
