Day 5 - Stop over in Hong Kong
As there are various islands around Hong Kong it is worth going to one of the piers at Central Station and travel to one of them in order to explore their nature.
Every island has his own ferry station (see image), which means that the only route at pier 5 for example is to Cheung Chau island back and forth, and the ferry comes every 30-60min and it takes about 20min to get there (you can use your Octopus card as usual for traveling).
Pier 4 -
On the island you find a variety of fish restaurants small tourist shops, and temples.
Cheung Chau has a lot of little appartments and flats to offer on many places of the island but on the other side of the pier it is more residential.
Many information signs are showing the way to the pier, sights and the large public beach.
Somehow it is fascinating how fast you can change your langscape from the "big city life" to an idylic, peaceful island and just relax or play with your dogs or kids. In only 20-30 min time you switch from massive skyescrapers and a hectical city heart to a tropical oasis with sun, beach and flipflop sandals.
The variouse fish restaurants offer a variety from Dim Sum over fresh seafood ala fish, craps, squid, lopster, scallops HK/ Chinese style...
Cost: From 101-500HK$ for 2 ppl incl. drinks
CHINESE NEW YEAR -11th of Feb. 2013
THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE - In the evening we got very lucky as we were just right in time for the chinese new year fireworks on the TST side of the harbour.
It started at 8pm and ended 20min later but the spectacle was huge and the rockets impressive and loud!
Chinese peoples and tourists get really excited about fireworks and every time one of them explodes the crowd goes:" Woooooooooooooow ooooohhhh aaaaahhhh" and this seriously a 100 times (ever time a new explosion is to hear)
XD
